Albert Nicholas, a clarinetist who played with Joe “King” Oliver, said, “The band played full but no blasting. Joe wanted to hear those feet on the floor; the feet of the dancers. He’d say, ‘When you don’t hear those feet, you’re not playing music; you’re making noise.'”

Hetty Kate

Hetty Kate

Equally at home serenading an intimate club or fronting a symphony orchestra, Hetty Kate is one of Australia’s best-known jazz singers. Her sweet sound, clear tone and unshakeable sense of swing are all a perfect fit for the music she loves to sing. “She’s truly one of the best swing-style vocalists (I’m talking 1940, Benny Goodman style 4/4 swing) on the current scene..” Will Friedwald’s Clip Joint USA 2015

The BLX All Stars

The BLX All Stars

The BLX All Stars features some of Brisbane’s hottest jazz musicians, and has been formed exclusively for Sunshine Swing 2016. In a little big band format, the All Stars will perform classic dance tunes, selected exclusively by Brisbane’s swing DJs, from the 1930s, 40s, and 50s. The band will have you jumping to the sounds of Jimmie Lunceford, Count Basie, Benny Goodman and Louis Jordan.

From a passionate desire to make raw beautiful music that grooves and delights, OUT of ABINGDON have built a unique sound that draws from influences including Stevie Ray Vaughan, Grant Green, Bjork & Nina Simone. Their understated elegance draws the listener in… “Smooth and soulful jazz from this talented duo… creating infectiously rhythmic percussion out of their own instruments…” Catherine Bryer, Broadway Baby EDINBURGH2012

Jonno Zilber

Jonno Zilber

A professional musician since the age of sixteen years, Zilber has played all around Australia and internationally and released four solo albums. From school yards to prison yards, outback pubs with topless dancers to churches with born-again preachers, run down bars with no electricity to large international festivals, he’s played them all. “Voice, energy, musicianship. Can a sound be raw and polished? Zilber’s got it!” Paul Wallis, Author
